Lord Indra! Lord Indra!

11 Sep

Kabir had his school play a few days back. Last year, he spent most of the time staring at the audience when he was on stage during the performance. I think he was a bit bewildered by all the people staring back at him. This year, we were a bit nervous that he would not remember his lines, or not want to perform; but to our pleasant surprise, not only did he remember his lines perfectly almost from the very beginning, but, on the day of the actual performance, put on a great show, said his lines loudly and clearly, and also gestured (which none of the other kids did).

The story as every one knows, is that Parvati leaves her son to guard her while she is bathing. Lord Shiva, on returning from his meditations fights the boy and cuts off his head. Thereafter, he calls Lord Indra (Kabir) for help. You can see Kabir going in and out because Lord Shiva, who is only supposed to call him once, keeps calling his name and confusing him. After he settles down however, he says his lines and tells Lord Shiva, that while any animal’s head can be used on top of the body, only Lord Brahma can do the needful as he is the Creator. So, Lord Brahma is called and brings an elephant’s head to place on top of the body and revive it. At the end, all the kids sing “I love you, you love me, We’re a happy family” wala song and then they all bow and the play ends.

Sorry for the dialogues not being clear, but there were too many screaming toddlers in the audience for the camera mic to pick up things clearly.

Note: The crown that Kabir is wearing was made by me! I had a blast sticking plastic jewels and other shiny things on the golden paper. He ended up wearing it more like a headband than a crown though, which makes for a funny picture!

We couldn’t be prouder!
